The growth and prospects of the waste management sector in Italy: the analysis of the WAS Report 2023
The waste management sector in Italy is experiencing significant growth and the Gruppo Esposito is at the center of this transformation. With a constant commitment to the design of innovative plants for the waste treatment and recovery, the Gruppo Esposito is emerging as a reference in the sector, contributing to the development of technologies that have a decisive impact on sustainability and the circular economy.
A need that also emerges from the ISPRA’s latest “Report on Waste from Economic Activities”, which highlights the growing investments in innovative technologies to improve the efficiency of waste collection, treatment and recycling processes.
This evolution not only helps to reduce the environmental impact, but also creates new opportunities for work and economic development. In Italy, waste management is worth 27 billion euros, a value that has significantly increased compared to previous years, with a recycling rate that has reached 55%, in line with the European objectives for 2025.
The ISPRA report also provides a promising overview from an employment point of view: the sector employs over 140,000 people, with a growth of 3% compared to the previous year.
On the one hand, these numbers confirm the quality of the activities developed in the waste management industry, see for example the PNRR investments. On the other hand, they open up to a scenario in which technological innovation and sustainability represent the main drivers of growth. Therefore, the waste management sector in Italy is destined to play an increasingly crucial role.
Looking to the future, it is clear that a continuous commitment to the adoption of sustainable practices and technological innovation will be essential to guarantee balanced economic development and a more sustainable environment for future generations. A greener future is now within our reach.
